The richest collection in Kazakhstan is collected in a museum. About 120 thousand exhibits of the constant exposition are located in four huge halls, and 200 thousand — in funds of the museum. The history of Kazakhstan since the most ancient times is reflected in them. It is possible to see traditional clothes, ornaments of Kazakhs and people living in Kazakhstan, to get acquainted with their life and art in the museum. The photos telling about the past of city are interesting. About earthquakes in 1887 and 1910, about powerful mud and stone stream which has descended on a channel of the river Small Almatinka in 1921.
The rectangular three-tier building of the museum is decorated with nine pavilion-shaped domes. The biggest dome is in the center, and eight of them are on its perimeter. The combination of a white facing stone and dark blue domes create a surprising composition. At night the building is shined by dark blue light of projectors and looks, maybe, even more beautiful, than in the afternoon. In front of building of the museum there is a small square with small ponds, stone bridges, heaps of stones and weeping willows.
