Railway station «Almaty-1» is built in 1929 as one of the major stations of the well-known Turkestan-Siberian railway, constructed by heroic work in 1927—1931. The train of the government of republic has arrived here, since then Alma-Ata became the capital of Kazakhstan. Then it was a small building of station and near station constructions, small near station square and barrack-type dwellings of builders of road and railwaymen. It was the surburb of young capital however quickly developed in 30 — 40's which are equiped with modern conveniences and planted trees and shrubs. The echelons of heroic 316-th and 38-th shooting divisions, echelons with military technics and arms left on front from here during Great Domestic war I.
By 70's of XX century the station became the largest railway junction, the center of the Alma-Aty branch of the Kazakh railway. Reconstruction of region was widely developed, and in 1976 the collective of builders «Kazakhtransconstruction» has erected under the project of architects S. O. Mhitorjan, Z. M. Soldatova and others a new building of station.
The station has some floors. On the 1-st floor ticket offices are placed; on the 2-nd and 3-rd floors — waiting rooms, economic premises, restaurant; in a basement floor left-luggage offices, cafeterias, rooms of consumer services are located.
Passenger platforms are connected with a building of station by the tunnel. Railway station «Almaty-1» daily serves on the average about 2,5 thousand passengers.
